History

In July 2008, Joseph “Jay” Connor, a nationally recognized authority on community change and collaboration, was hired to assist DeKalb County in developing a shared vision to address the community’s most compelling social issue. Following preliminary work with a Vision Committee, a draft vision was presented to 150 DeKalb County community members in November 2008.

Participants at the community meeting included representatives in the fields of business, government, education, early childhood, healthcare, agriculture, and professional and social services, among others. Incorporating the input of the meeting participants resulted in the shared community vision:

Working together through continuous learning to
improve the quality of life for all in DeKalb County.
